OPSC Previous Year Cut-offs

OPSC OCS Previous Year Cut-offs 2018–2024: Category-Wise Prelims Marks

OPSC OCS Previous Year Cut-offs 2018–2024: Category-Wise Prelims Marks Why OPSC OCS Previous Year Cut-offs Matter

OPSC OCS previous year cut-offs tell you how many marks you need in the Prelims to reach the Mains, and they are the most reliable benchmark available to Odisha civil services aspirants. The Odisha Civil Services (OCS) Preliminary Examination is a qualifying screening test. Your Prelims marks do not count towards the final merit list, but a score below the cut-off ends your attempt.

The cut-off changes every year with the number of vacancies, the difficulty of the paper and the number of candidates who appear. Looking at seven years of data (2018 to 2024) shows you the realistic range, not just one number to chase. The 2025 Prelims cut-off has not been published yet, so this article focuses only on officially declared past cut-offs.

OCS Year-Wise Vacancies (2018–2025)

The number of vacancies is one of the biggest drivers of the cut-off. More posts usually mean more candidates cleared for Mains and a lower cut-off.

Key Trends in OPSC OCS Cut-offs

The cut-off swung sharply between 2018 and 2024, and five patterns stand out.

  1. 2022 was the lowest year in every category. The UR (Male) cut-off fell to 48.854 and the ST (Female) cut-off to 15.646. This was also the year with the most vacancies (683).

  2. The cut-off has climbed back since 2022. UR (Male) rose from 48.854 in 2022 to 76.085 in 2023 and 102.191 in 2024, a gain of more than 53 marks in two years.

  3. The UR (Male) peak was 106.044 in 2020. The 2024 figure of 102.191 is the second highest in the period. SEBC (Male) peaked at 110.204 in 2019, the highest single value in the table.

  4. Fewer vacancies pushed reserved-category cut-offs up. In 2019, with only 153 vacancies, SC (Male) reached 89.796 and ST (Male) reached 73.469, both above their 2024 levels.

  5. Vacancies are not the only factor. 2020 had 392 vacancies yet produced the highest UR (Male) cut-off, so paper difficulty and competition clearly matter too.

Male vs female cut-offs

Female cut-offs have been lower than male cut-offs in every category and every year. In the UR category the gap ranged from about 6.4 marks (2023) to about 11.7 marks (2019). In 2024 it was 8.4 marks (102.191 vs 93.766).

Gap between categories in 2024

In 2024 the SEBC (Male) cut-off was 93.106, SC (Male) was 72.489 and ST (Male) was 54.766. That is roughly 9 marks, 30 marks and 47 marks below UR (Male) respectively.

What to take from the data

A safe target is the highest cut-off your category has seen in recent years, not the lowest. The 2022 dip was an exception, and the last two years show the exam is returning to the 2019–2020 level.

How to Use Previous Year Cut-offs in Your OCS Preparation

  1. Set a target above the cut-off. Aim for at least 10 to 15 marks above your category's recent high so that a tougher paper or a lucky guess does not decide your result.

  2. Track your mock scores by category. Compare every mock test against your own category's 2020, 2023 and 2024 numbers, not against the UR figure.

  3. Balance accuracy and attempts. Because the paper carries negative marking, attempting more questions only helps if your accuracy stays high.

  4. Solve previous year papers first. They show the question pattern, the weight of Odisha-specific topics and the level of difficulty behind each year's cut-off.

  5. Plan for Mains early. The Prelims only qualifies you. The Mains, with its descriptive General Studies papers, optional subject and essay, decides your rank, so start answer writing alongside Prelims revision.

Note that the exact structure and marking scheme can change with each OPSC notification, so check the latest official notice before you plan.
